How An Evo III and IV is Made

 

 

The Procam Manufacture Process

 

Firstly the raw material is cut to length and then the entire frame is jig welded together.

Look at the amount of heavy duty steel we use in our machines!

  This welding procedure will introduce high frequency stresses into the frame and if these stresses are not removed the frame Will twist and distort after assembly of the machine. Procam CNC are the only CNC manufacturer in Australia to have our frames professionaly stress relieved. The entire frame is heated to a temperature of 900deg C and held there for 12 hours. The furniss is then switched off and the frame is alowed to cool slowly thus removing all stresses in the fabrication.

Imagine how upset you will be when your machine warps after it is installed!

No amount of warranty will fix this!

 

 

After the heat treatment the Procam frame is taken to the machine shop where it is set up on a CNC machining center and the bed surface and Linear guidway surfaces are precision machined in one setting. The benifit of machining the entire frame after Heat Treatment is that all the machined surfaces are machined at the same time. This ensures that every important surface on the machine is perfectly parralell and square. A CNC Router can only cut as accuratly as it was manufactured.

The finished machined frame is then moved to the paint shop where it is carefully prepared for spray painting. The frame is first primed with a Red Oxide etch primer before the final paint is applied.

The linear guideways and precision rack are aligned to the CNC machined shoulders on the frame. The gantry is squared to the main frame using the latest Laser alignment technology. The result is a machine that can't be rivaled for strength or accuracy.

We have considered a one piece gantry in the past but the accuracy of the finished product would have suffered so we decided to stay with our proven method. We have two huge mating surfaces and these surfaces are bolted together. This is the same technology used in race car design.

The Vacuum table and Y axis guide rails are the next steps in the assembly process.

Next comes the electrical cable and electronics. We only use the highest quality IGUS CHAINFLEX cable which is imported from Germany. This cable is specificaly designed to be used in a dynamic cable chain traveling up and down every day alongside the machine. We have tried using a lesser cable and this cable has failed after a relitivly short period. At Procam CNC we factory test ALL our components before putting them out in the field. If something is going to fail it will fail in test.

Our controler is fitted once the cableing has been installed. We use DELTA AC Servo drives as these have been tried and tested over many years and are the forerunner in today's AC Servo technology. We do have the option of using a less expensive system from North America which has intergrated AC drives but at Procam CNC there is no compromise.

 

Once the motion has been setup and the machine is running we machine our custom matrix Vacuum Table. If we could have the vacuum results we require by simply machining a few holes into an aluminium extrusion we would do so. Tests have prooved that the Procam Matrix Vacuum Table is a far superior design giving unbelievable results.
